Federal Budget Allocates Funding for Flight PS752 Memorial in Richmond Hill

November 9, 2025 – Richmond Hill, Ontario
The Government of Canada has allocated funding in its 2026 federal budget for the construction of a permanent memorial in Richmond Hill to honor the victims of Flight PS752—a significant step toward preserving the memory of the 176 lives lost in the tragedy of January 8, 2020.
The announcement was formally acknowledged on Sunday, November 9, 2025, during a gathering at Unity Park in Richmond Hill, attended by Ali Ehsassi, Member of Parliament for Willowdale and Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Privy Council, David West, Mayor of Richmond Hill, Dr. Hamed Esmaeilion, board member of the Association of Families of Flight PS752 Victims, and members of the Association.

The event recognized the federal government’s investment, made through Global Affairs Canada and the Department of Canadian Heritage, for the development of a landmark memorial project to be located in Unity Park—a site chosen for its symbolic message of unity and togetherness. The memorial is expected to revitalize the area and serve as a lasting tribute to the victims, 44 of whom lived in Richmond Hill and York Region.
Following the announcement, the Association of Families of Flight PS752 Victims expressed appreciation to the Government of Canada, Global Affairs Canada, and the Department of Canadian Heritage for their continued support.
“We also extend our appreciation to Mayor David West, MP Ali Ehsassi, and Ontario Minister Michael Parsa for their ongoing partnership and commitment to advancing this important project,” the Association noted in its message.
Dr. Esmaeilion, who attended on behalf of the Association, described the initiative as “an important step toward permanent remembrance and public awareness.”
The City of Richmond Hill has been a consistent supporter of the families of the PS752 victims’ pursuit of justice and remembrance. Mayor West stated in a social media post that “this federal investment will be meaningful and lasting.”
The Association remains hopeful that the budget provision will receive final approval from Parliament, paving the way for construction to begin in the near future.
