Statement of the Association of Families of Flight PS752 Victims on the death of Ali Khamenei

Today marks the end of a long and painful chapter in the history of Iran.
Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, presided over decades of repression, violence, and impunity. Under his authority, countless innocent lives were lost including the 176 innocent passengers and unborn child victims of Flight PS752, who were killed as a result of decisions made within a system defined by secrecy, militarization, and disregard for human life.
For the families of the victims, this moment brings a sense of solemn relief. No single individual’s death can restore our loved ones, nor can it undo the suffering inflicted on millions of Iranians. But the end of a ruler whose tenure was marked by brutality and denial creates space for reflection and for possibility.
We remain cautious, yet hopeful.
The people of Iran have demonstrated extraordinary courage in their pursuit of truth, justice, and freedom. We hope that this moment becomes the beginning of a genuine transition toward democratic governance, a future in which power is accountable, laws are just, and no authority stands above the lives and dignity of its citizens.
Our vision is clear: an Iran where all people, regardless of belief, ethnicity, gender, or political view, live as equal citizens under the rule of law; an Iran at peace with itself and in constructive relationship with the world.
The struggle for accountability for the downing of Flight PS752 has always been part of the broader struggle of the people of Iran against impunity and state violence. True justice requires structural change: transparency instead of secrecy, human rights instead of repression, and democratic institutions instead of unchecked power.
We call on the international community to stand with the people of Iran during this critical moment, to support a peaceful and democratic transition, and to continue pursuing accountability for crimes committed under this regime.
For the memory of our loved ones, and for the future generations of Iran, we hope this moment opens the door to a new beginning, one defined not by fear, but by freedom.
